After the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school last month, Laura Lauria of Flagler Beach, Florida was concerned about security at her daughter's school. (--Laura's age wasn't given. Flagler Beach is 75 miles south of Jacksonville.)
--Her daughter is in sixth grade at Old Kings Elementary School. And while the county pays for deputies to patrol the high schools, they eliminated full-time security for younger students in 2005 . . . to save money.
--So Laura agreed to PAY for a full-time deputy HERSELF. The guy started working at the school on January 14th, and makes $32 an hour.
--Laura paid for the first two months upfront . . . which was about $12,000. And she said she'll cover the costs for the rest of the school year . . . which should be about $22,000.
